Roll of 150' x 5", 8 oz fiberglass cloth. Absolute highest quality, tight weave, UNTREATED, manufactured by Carolina Narrow Fabric Co. for the aerospace industry, their 1581-5, 5X008.
This material was purchased from a major aerospace company and is in the original packaging and is in perfect condition.
Please note: Most non-critical applications use treated fiberglass to enhance the wetting capability so that the resin absorbs as much as possible. Aerospace applications on the other hand, often require maximum strength.
Treating of fiberglass cloth and the required high temperature cycling would substantially reduce the strength of the fibers.
When CNF produces this type of material, they do not treat it. The raw material they use to weave the material actually arrives to them with a low level of treatment. They do not do a treatment of their own.
For example, one manufacturer uses this type of material to make racing car wheels. The wheel manufacturer requires the highest possible strength and therefore settles for less than the maximum possible wetting of the resin. For best wetting, epoxy resin has a slight advantage over polyester resins in these high strength applications.
It is always a good idea to try several test swatches and test for proper performance prior to executing any particular application.
